A classic Japanese soup often a prelude to sushi or whatever be the main course. It's such a staple most have learned the ways they prefer over others. In the same way, while I was in Japan I found my favorite additions and have included my recipe below. Despite my cooking talents, my favorite miso soup came from the tsukiji fish market's sushi dai restaurant where I ate the best sushi in the world.
1. heat up some water to boiling
2. add the ingredients to a bowl: either miso paste or an instant miso packet, handful of mushrooms, 1/4 block of firm tofu (cubed), a few sliced green onions, a handful of spinach
3. add the boiling water to the bowl of ingredients, I like to add a raw egg into the hot water which will cook it while its simmering
